Join us at the first Quarterly Seminar of 2024 to network with industry colleagues and hear speakers discuss, diversity equity and Inclusion, what can internal audit do in the DE&I space? CIIA – new standards and plans for 2024, geopolitical risk: underwriting, aggregation and compliance considerations. The morning will conclude with an update from the Good Practice Development Group on plans and areas of focus for 2024. Post event all attendees will be entitled to claim up to 3 hours CPD.

Diversity Equity and Inclusion in Financial Services  

  • Sasha Molodtsov, Partner Financial Services, BDO 

Sasha's presentation will focus on:

  • Diversity and Inclusion in Financial Services – where we are now and the regulatory direction of travel
  • Diversity and Inclusion in the employee lifecycle - typical internal audit scopes
  • Preparing for an internal audit – best practices and challenges

CIIA – New standards and plans for 2024 

  • Ann Brook - Head of Technical Content and Research, CIIA

Ann's session will cover:

  • Overview of the new Global Standards changes and the key areas that CAEs and ACs need to look at
  • Timeline and activity planned by Global IIA to support their implementation for January 2025
  • Approach and planned timeline at the Chartered IIA to support their implementation

Geopolitical Risk: Impacts on Underwriting and Exposure Management

  • Joanna Cousins, Underwriter Political Violence, Westfield Speciality
  • Claudia Dent, Exposure Management Analyst, Westfield Specialty

Increased volatility worldwide and the uncertainties that follow political change are impacting globally on geo-political, economic, and social risks. Our industry seeks to protect customers against harm to their physical assets and premises, supply chains, workforces, and cyber resilience.

In this presentation Joanna and Claudia will offer insight on:

  • What does geopolitical risk mean for insurance?
  • How does this inform and shape underwriting?
  • How do we manage and control geopolitical risk?
  • What are the implications for the insurance industry

The presentation will include a worked example of geopolitical event response in the context of Israel-Gaza.

The Seminar will begin with registration and refreshments at 9.30am, will include a mid-morning coffee break and finish at 1.00 pm with a buffet lunch.

Attendance is £75 per head and payment is via bank transfer.

Ann Brook

Head of Technical Content and Research

Chartered IIA

 

 

 

Ann has been working in the internal audit and related professions for over 25 years and became a Head of Internal Audit in a large building society in 2009. Since then, she worked in Risk Management and various governance roles, and held multiple appointments as Board, Council and Audit Committee member across a range of sectors and industries.

Ann moved into higher education in 2013 with the aim to giving more back to the internal audit profession. She was course leader for the only Internal Audit focused degree in the UK and helped develop both the level 4 and level 7 Apprenticeships with the trailblazer group of employees. She subsequently implemented and delivered the level 7 apprenticeship which she grew over 5 years by 700% with great success. 

Ann has been an active volunteer of the Chartered IIA since 2007 and is now Head of Technical Content and Research. She aims to bring her practical and higher education experiences to drive practical support for the internal audit profession.

Joanna Cousins

Joanna has been in the Terrorism & Political Violence market for 14 years and has a wealth of experience underwriting perils from Sabotage & Terrorism through to War in territories Worldwide.

She has a BSc in Geography from the University of Birmingham and is ACII qualified.

Claudia Dent

Senior Analyst, Exposure Management Team

Westfield Specialty

 

 

 

Since joining Westfield in 2022, Claudia has developed experience across multiple classes of business including Property Catastrophe, Marine & Energy, Political Violence and Casualty.

In 2023, she completed a secondment in the Catastrophe Modelling team and is the lead analyst for Climate Change risk.

She holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Bristol.

Sasha Molodtsov

Sasha is a Financial Services’ Partner, leading the Diversity & Inclusion advisory team, which sits within BDO's Financial Service's ESG and Regulatory Advisory practice.

Sasha has recently returned from secondment with the Bank of England.

Sasha co-leads the Diversity Project's Ambassador programme and a charity Trustee, in addition to her mentor role with Women in Banking and Finance, The 30% Club and The Prince’s Trust.
